Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway
Project: LYNMOUTH EXPERIENCE VISITORS' CENTRE TOURIST INFORMATION AND LLCR LOWER STATION Client: Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway & North Devon Council The project involved the integration of the requirements of a number of organisations into a comprehensive brief for the Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway, Exmoor National Parks Authority (TIC) & North Devon Counil. Our design then transposed these requirements onto a successful scheme which satisfied all aspects of the brief. Planning consent was granted to enclose the LLCR lower station with a large glass structure which extends over the lime kilns and connects to the Pavilion building at 1st floor level. On the ground floor the lime kilns are to be excavated to create an Ecology Cavern linked to the station concourse and exhibition of the Lynmouth Experience and upgraded Tourist Information Centre in the Pavilion. Presentation drawings to various stake holders included exhibition design concept proposals to be worked up in conjunction with the exhibition designers. These included the exhibits and innovative use of the unique water power available on site courtesy of the LLCR infrastructure to power onsite hydroelectric generator, hydraulic lift and mechanical exhibits to demonstrate various uses of water power.
